(November 4, 2005) The University of Lethbridge Pronghorn Women's Basketball team opened the Canada West season with a 67-65 come from behind victory over the #8 ranked University of Alberta Pandas. It was a tight game through out, with eleven lead changes and neither team extending their lead by more than ten points.
After both teams settled down from a sloppy start, the Horns would build an early lead to as many as ten points, only to see the Pandas chip it away and take the lead into the break 41-36. Both teams shot the ball well in the half, with the Pandas hitting on 50% of their shots, while the Horns were good 46% of the time.
The Horns clamped down defensively in the second half, only allowing 24 Panda points. With the Horns up by two with 17 seconds remaining, the Pandas attempted a three to win, but the shot would come up short, hitting the front rim. U of A was only 1-11 from behind the arc, while the Horns hit on 7 -20. The Pandas bench kept them in the game, out scoring the Horns bench 41-17. Jordana Miltimore led the charge for the Horns, scoring a game high 23 points, while Jessica Lynch added 14 for the victors. Nathalie Kiernan led the way for the Pandas, scoring 15 points. The Horns earned a bit of little revenge, after being swept by the Pandas last season.
With the win the Horns go to 1-0, while the Pandas drop to 1-2.
