Ted Poplawski

In his 17th season as a member of the University of Alberta coaching staff, Ted Poplawski is the longest serving assistant coach in Golden Bears history. During his tenure behind the bench at Alberta, he has helped lead the Golden Bears to five CIS University Cup national championships and 10 Canada West Hockey conference titles. When you throw in the three University Cup championships and three Canada West Hockey conference titles he won during his four seasons as a Golden Bears goaltender from 1976-77 to 1979-80, the two-time CIS All-Canadian has won a total of 21 championships – eight University Cups and 13 Hardy Cup titles.

After playing one season in the International Hockey League after graduating from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Education degree, Poplawski returned to Edmonton to begin his career as a teacher.

Ted Poplawski has a positive, enthusiastic approach to the game.  His knowledge of the art of goaltending and his affinity for young people make him a great confidence builder and developer of talent.
